This is the home page for Snap the Sentinel,

A retro first-person shooter for Windows and Linux

being developed by Doghouse Games. The game takes inspiration from 16-bit run-and-gun games. In Snap the Sentinel, players control Snap, the world's toughest turtle, who uses a blaster capable of firing all sorts of projectiles. Adding Snap the Sentinel to your Steam wishlist helps out the developers.

The version of Snap the Sentinel available on itch.io lacks some game mechanics and levels compared to the Steam demo, but it contains more levels than the Steam demo. This version is playable for free, but you can pay for it if you choose.

Snap the Sentinel's soundtrack is comprised entirely of FM synth music, similar to soundtracks of games released for the Sega Genesis/Sega Mega Drive. Several tracks prominently feature rock and metal-inspired melodies.

Discord is used as an announcement hub for Snap the Sentinel. Patreon subscribers can access a hidden channel on the Discord server where they can talk to other patrons and occasionally see demonstrations of work-in-progress content. The Patron-only channel is the only chat channel; non-subscribers can only see news updates and new social media posts.

You can follow Snap on Bluesky and Mastodon, which are both used by Doghouse Games staff to share development updates. The more active account is on Bluesky, where developers also post musings as Snap on a semi-regular basis.

The best way to support development is by subscribing to the lead developer TehRealSalt's Patreon. For just $1 USD per month, you can access work-in-progress builds of the game.
